Welcome to EdgeWords! These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the EdgeWords game, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

EdgeWords is operated by Jonathon Gibbs ("I", "me", "my") as an individual project. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using EdgeWords, you confirm that you:

• Are at least 13 years of age
• Have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
• Agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations
• Have read and understood the Privacy Policy

2. Description of Service

EdgeWords is a daily word puzzle game where players form chains of words using letters arranged around geometric shapes. The Service includes:

• Four daily puzzles (Triangle, Square, Pentagon, Hexagon)
• User accounts and profiles
• Social features (groups, leaderboards, friends, messaging)
• Achievement system and badges
• Custom puzzle creation and sharing
• Statistics tracking and progress history

The Service is provided "as is" and I reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time with or without notice.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

To use certain features, you must create an account by providing:

• A unique display name
• A valid email address
• A secure password

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
• All activities that occur under your account
• Notifying me immediately of any unauthorized access

I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your account credentials.

3.3 Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings. Upon deletion:

• Your account enters a 30-day grace period for recovery
• After 30 days, your personal information is permanently deleted
• I reserve the right to terminate or suspend accounts that violate these Terms

4. User Conduct and Responsibilities

4.1 Acceptable Use

You agree to use EdgeWords only for lawful purposes. You will NOT:

• Violate any laws or regulations
• Infringe on intellectual property rights
• Harass, abuse, threaten, or intimidate other users
• Post offensive, hateful, or discriminatory content
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity
• Spam or send unsolicited messages
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service
• Use automated tools (bots) to interact with the Service
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
• Interfere with the Service's operation or security

4.2 Content Standards

All user-generated content (custom puzzles, messages, profile information) must:

• Comply with all applicable laws
• Not contain profanity, hate speech, or offensive material
• Not promote illegal activities or violence
• Not contain personal information of others without consent
• Be appropriate for a general audience

5. User-Generated Content

5.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of any content you create (custom puzzles, messages, etc.). However, by submitting content to EdgeWords, you grant me a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

• Display, distribute, and store your content within the Service
• Allow other users to access and use your shared content
• Modify content as necessary for technical operation

5.2 Content Removal

I reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable, with or without notice.

5.3 Reporting

If you encounter inappropriate content or behavior, please report it through the in-game reporting system or by contacting support.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 EdgeWords Ownership

All rights, title, and interest in EdgeWords, including but not limited to:

• The EdgeWords name, logo, and branding
• Game mechanics, design, and functionality
• Software code and architecture
• Daily puzzles and official content
• Graphics, artwork, and user interface

...are owned by me or my licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

6.2 Limited License

I grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use EdgeWords for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

6.3 Restrictions

You may NOT:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works of EdgeWords
• Sell, rent, lease, or sublicense access to the Service
• Remove copyright notices or branding
• Use the Service for commercial purposes without permission

7. Third-Party Services

EdgeWords may contain links to third-party websites or services. I am not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of these third parties. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk.

8. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to me. Please review the Privacy Policy to understand how I collect, use, and protect your information.

9. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

9.1 "As Is" Service

EdgeWords is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

• Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
• Warranties of uninterrupted or error-free operation
• Warranties regarding accuracy or reliability of content

9.2 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

• Loss of profits, data, or use
• Business interruption
• Loss of goodwill or reputation
• Any other intangible losses

My total liability for any claims arising from your use of EdgeWords shall not exceed £50 (fifty pounds sterling) or the amount you paid for the Service in the past 12 months, whichever is greater.

9.3 Exceptions

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:

• Death or personal injury caused by negligence
• Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
• Any liability that cannot be excluded by law

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless me, my affiliates, and service providers from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any third-party rights
• Your use or misuse of the Service
• Your user-generated content

11. Changes to Terms

I may update these Terms from time to time. When I make changes, I will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, I will notify you via:

• Email to your registered address
• Prominent notice on the Service
• In-app notification

Your continued use of EdgeWords after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account.

12. Termination

I may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms
• Fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
• Long periods of inactivity (after reasonable notice)
• Any reason at my sole discretion

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will remain in effect.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

13.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.

13.2 Dispute Resolution

Before filing any formal claim, please contact me to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most disputes can be resolved through friendly discussion.

Any disputes that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

14. Miscellaneous

14.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and me regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.

14.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full effect.

14.3 Waiver

My failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not be deemed a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

14.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without my written consent. I may assign these Terms without restriction.

14.5 Force Majeure

I shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond my reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, accidents, strikes, or shortages of transportation, facilities, fuel, energy, labor, or materials.

15. Beta Service Notice

EdgeWords is currently in beta development. Features, availability, and functionality may change without notice. I appreciate your patience and feedback as I continue to improve the Service.

By using EdgeWords, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
